1st Wedding Anniversary

I cannot believe that on the 9th of April we already celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary! Time sure flies when you’re having fun huh? :)
I told Wihan early on that I'd like to be surprised for our anniversary and I would like to go away seeing as (and I’m a little embarrassed to admit this) we haven’t gone away just the two of us since our honeymoon!!
So anyway, there was a lot of sneaky emails and days when I wasn’t allowed in the study so that Wihan could make arrangements. On the Friday that we left I still had no idea where we were headed. I had speculations (being of a curious nature and quite a good detective – if I might say so myself) but I resisted snooping. Usually when I do that I find out and spoil my own surprise!
We stopped in Lydenburg for brunch and at around 3pm (about 7 hours after we’d left home that morning) we finally came close to our destination and I had to close my eyes and block my ears (so that I wouldn’t hear what the guard at the gate said)

After a few kilometres on a very bumpy dirt road I could finally open my eyes, and saw that we had arrived at Pezulu Tree House Lodge!
Never mind the fact that I was already super excited about spending a whole weekend away - just the 2 of us – now I find out we’ll be spending it in a freaken tree house!! I was beyond thrilled!
We checked in at reception and one of the staff members took us to our house. I was like a child, bouncing up and down saying “there’s a TREE in our house!” and asking questions about how often they need to trim the branches. (Yep I think the guy probably thought I was a bit of freak but I was so excited that I really didn’t care)

This was our bedroom. Please note the bed is on wheels so that you can open the patio doors (as seen below) and push the bed out and sleep outside!

After settling in we went for a little walk to see what the rest of the lodge looked like and hopefully get a few peeks into the other houses (we were quite early so most of the houses were empty)

On Saturday morning I woke up to a rustling in the bushes behind our house. Hoping to see the big animal(s) that were making the sounds, I woke hubby up and we went outside into the cold and proceeded to see … Nothing. Oh, did I mention the sun wasn’t up yet? :)
(Note to self: Next time when camping – take a flash light!)
So after a few seconds of staring into the dark, Wihan crawled back into bed but I stayed up waiting for the sun…

On Sunday morning we left quite early, sad to leave but excited about the day that lay ahead as we had decided to take the long way home and do the Panorama Route. Mpumalanga is one of my favourite provinces simply because it’s beautiful!

It was definitely an incredible weekend (I dare say it was better than our honeymoon…) and I would recommend Pezulu to anyone! The service is great, the food is amazing, and the venue is perfect for a completely relaxing weekend!

Speaking of weekends … Hope you have a great one coming up.
See you soon!
